10 Career and Leadership Lessons

Last month, I was very fortunate to attend the 34th Annual Women in the Forefront Luncheon (The Chicago Network) with a few colleagues from National Louis University! It was a beautiful event with over 1,500 women leaders from across the Chicagoland area.

Here are 10 inspirational career and leadership takeaways from the event:

I absolutely loved the panel conversation with Sheila Johnson, Founder and CEO of Salamander Hotel & Resorts and Michele C. Meyer-Shipp, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide.

  1. Don't be afraid of failure. It's how we learn. Reframe failure as "strategic decisions".

  2. When engaging in conversations related to racial disparities, get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Also be creative when bringing people together for these types of conversations.

  3. Avoid moving too quickly on to the next job. Work with a career coach if you need clarity on your next career move.

  4. Reject the impostor syndrome. "Use your difference as your superpower!"

  5. Leadership is all of who you are. "Own your power".

  6. Leadership also looks like knowing your strengths, being genuine and authentic, being direct, and being honest.

  7. Keep the "energetic vampires" away! Set boundaries.

  8. Your mindset is so important, so you need to manage it.

  9. It's okay to spend time with people who look like you, but challenge yourself to diversify your network.

  10. Always invest in education.

I'd love to know, which of these resonates with you the most? Let me know on LinkedIn!
